  1. My son is 3 years old. He started passing blood in his urine suddenly this morning. There was no pain while passing urine.
We got a urine routine done before meeting the doc. The results were normal except for the following values:
    1. protein (++++)
    2. Epithelial Cells (2-3) Normal : 1-2.
    3. Pus Cells (12-13) Normal : 2-3
    4. RBC (Full house)

The doctor diagnosed it as UTI of the bladder most likely, but not sure. Kidney infection, he said, may be safely ruled out since there is no fever etc.

However, later in the evening, the boy has been experiencing a lot of pain in passing urine.

My question is: Should Nephritis be considered as a possible diagnosis?

  2. nephritis has no pain associated, pain while passing urine and presence of pus will justify treatment as Urinary infection. also get a urine culture done. examine the penis and surrounding skin for evidence of infection.

  5. well, i think u just repeat the stool test from a better laboratory. getting EH at this age of 10 days is very uncommon. phototherapy can cause loose stools but not EH. by EH we mean is ameba. rest all is pus. if the repeat also same and baby is sick looking, baby may need evaluation and treatment with antiameba drugs and antibiotics. seriousness is only because of age otherwise such infections are very common.

  6. I have a six week old baby, this may not be relavent but she was born three weeks early. I have noticed that her left arm keeps turning blue, she lifts both legs and they tremble/shake and also it seems as though she cant catch her breath and starts to pant while being fed from her bottle. At birth the hospital found a heart murmour but when she was checked one week later they said it had disappeared like they usually do.

  7. My daughter is five months old and has a head tilt and a flattened head on one side because of that. I have taken her to an orthopoedic and they said that it isn't torticollis which her pediatricians were almost positive that it was. Now they want me to take her to a craniofacial doctor. What do you think it could be? What are the next steps that I should take in order to findout whats wrong (what specialists should I see?)?

  8. if her developments and head size are normal, including head holding and turning head to either side.. as per age, then we wont be worried much about it, as then it can be labelled as a part of plagiocephaly which is normal to a great extent.
orthopedics dont play much role. toriticolis may be there, a therapist may help. if teh child can turn head to other side without turning the body.. then there is no torticollis.

  9. Respected Sir,

This question is about my three year and 4 months old son, who is in preschool now. He is excessively hyperactive and likes to do only physical activity . Weight :14kgs. Height : 90cms (3 feet)

He has been fed breast milk for 2 years. 6 months after birth, he started taking cereals along with breast milk. When he was 1 year and 11 months, i started weaning him off and since then he has a sensitive stomach. Its been close to one and half years since then, and he develops loose stools in almost a month or two. Doctors here prescribe him with an antibiotics. Now the situation is such that he doesnt get cured without an antibiotic. The Antiobiotic that he has been taking is Ofloxacin Oral Suspension . Whenever we plan to get him treated naturally, he becomes so weak,as he does not have a single meal throughout. This time he has developed facial boils on his face.

    His daily diet includes :
    a) 100 ml milk in the morning :6:00 am
    b) Breakfast : 1 bread ( or half a bread) + Juice (tropicana)
    c) Lunch : Rice with mix of vegetables (beans/carrot/or plain rice)
    d) Sleeps for 2 hrs in afternoon and after the nap has 100 ml of milk and biscuits or snacks + 1/2 fruit(apple/mango)
    e) Dinner : 1 slice of indian bread ( chapati) or rice again with juice
    f) Nap time : 100 ml milk

Off late he has started avoiding milk, so we try giving him sweetened butter milk.
He develops cold also pretty soon.

I am worried about his overall immunity. He is extremely picky about his meal and at times misses wither his breakfast or lunch. Even with a lot of persuasion , i fail in making him eat balanced diet.

Kindly give me suggestion as to what i should do for his good health. I feel miserable sometimes, when i make so many things for him and he does not have anything.
